Candy often plays a negative role in dental abrasion, and seeing as how the pinnacle of candy consumption is arriving just around the corner with Halloween, it is important to make sure you’re following effective treatment plans to lower your risk of dental abrasion.
To help keep your smile safe, it is important to use low abrasive cleaning utensils. This includes safe toothpaste, toothbrushes with soft bristles, and a brush head that is a comfortable size as not to contribute to further abrasion. If you are consuming acidic foods and drinks, make sure you rinse your mouth out immediately afterward. You can either use water, mouthwash, or another similar means to help stimulate saliva flow to ensure assets will not be able to erode your enamel. Studies have shown that chewing sugarless gum after meals has even been proven to help stimulate saliva flow, prevent cavities, and neutralize acids. Furthermore, only eat acidic foods with larger meals and never as stand-alone snacks.
