Although you already have a great smile, Mark L. Pitel, DMD, PC wants to assist you with any small chips or minor blemishes you may want fixed. Recontouring is an easy, quick procedure to reshape any of your teeth and give you your best smile.
A small chip in the tooth, pits or bulges in the tooth’s enamel, irregular tooth shape caused by uneven teeth, or the length of your canines may be one of the slight imperfections you have. Your dentist can fix a small chip by smoothing out the rough edge, or if the extent of the damage is more, another selection is a veneer or bonding. Veneers redesign the front teeth and bonding attaches material to the tooth.
Pits or bulges on the tooth enamel can also be levelled out. Irregular tooth shapes can be adjusted to your liking as well as the length of the canines. A substantial chip or fracture can be fixed with veneers or bonding which of themselves are recontouring.
For the first step of the recontouring process, you see your dentist for an exam to determine which treatment pertains to your oral care. An x-ray is taken for the exact size and location in relation to the tooth’s pulp containing the nerves and blood vessels. A veneer or bonding may be used if the enamel is too thin or the pulp lies too close to the surface.
A fine diamond bur or sanding disc will be used in the procedure to remove a very small part of the tooth enamel. A strip of sandpaper will be used to smooth out the tooth if there are imperfections in-between the teeth with a polish to give the tooth its final shine.
You do not have to meet with your dentist again after a recontouring procedure, but if you have any questions or would like to schedule another appointment, give us a call at 845-454-0790. Mark L. Pitel, DMD, PC here in Poughkeepsie, New York will be happy to assist you and answer any questions!
